Wangan Midnight
Wangan Midnight is a popular manga series in Japan and has spawned a slew of live action movies, arcade games, and most recently an anime series. The anime was released in Japan in 2006 and wrapped up its first season in November 2007. The series is was developed and released under the same production company as Initial D with Keiichi Tsuchiya as technical advisor. The series seems promising, trading the mountain togue roads for the smooth straightaways of the Yokohama wangan and the famous Toyota AE86 Trueno for the Datsun 280 Z. Many of the characters in Wangan Midnight mirror those of Initial D but it’s a welcome substitute for the drifting anime which has been on hiatus since 2006. Only 6 of the 26 first season episodes have been subtitled for english and future subbed episodes remain to be seen in the future. I hope this series takes off like Initial D did years ago, while Initial D is still better, Wangan Midnight offers a different style of racing with an equally interesting story line.
